Event History Analysis
Updated 2026-08-10
INTRODUCTION
English translation pending.
CORE DEFINITION
The analysis of the time pattern of an event's occurrence, that is, which factors shape its timing and its probability. As a scaffold it is causal analysis with a time lens: do not ask only whether it happens, but when it happens, and how the probability of it happening changes over time.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
- Event define: fix what counts as the event, and where the clock starts. - Time gather: collect the timing data and the covariates that ride along with it. - Model fit: estimate the hazard with a Cox model and read the coefficients.
Anchor fast decisions
It follows individual cases over time to see whether and when the event occurs for each one, and fits survival and hazard models to estimate the probability of occurrence and the factors that shape it.
