CORE DEFINITION
The thought experiment that all events in the universe will repeat endlessly, so that the very same events occur again and again, and that this tests whether a person would be willing to live his or her life over infinitely many times. Its scaffold function is a life-meaning test: it forces the question of whether one would accept an endless repetition of the life one is living now, and in doing so pushes a person toward a more meaningful and fuller life.
