CORE DEFINITION

In a complex network, the layer of 'boundary nodes' that isolates a node (me) from the external world. For me, as long as I know the state of the Markov blanket, what happens outside the blanket is irrelevant to me (conditional independence).

Self-boundary definition. An organism essentially maintains a Markov blanket to resist entropy increase. In system design, defining a clear Markov blanket (interface/API) is key to modularity and reducing cognitive load.
