Subjective Validation
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
When a statement has personal meaning to me (or I believe it is directed at me), I tend to consider it true, no matter how vague or general it is. This is a core principle of cold reading and astrology.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
The trap of taking things personally. When you feel a statement is 'too accurate,' first check whether it applies to most people. If so, it is not accurate; it is you engaging in subjective validation, filling its framework with your own story.
Anchor fast decisions
Treat subjective feelings/experiences as a form of evidence (especially in phenomenology, user experience), but they must be distinguished from and complement objective, repeatable verification.
