Jade Pillow / Yu Zhen

INTRODUCTION
English translation pending.
CORE DEFINITION
Yu Zhen, or Jade Pillow, refers both to the occipital protuberance at the back of the head and to the acupuncture point of the same name on the Foot Taiyang Bladder Channel. In internal alchemy it is the third of the three gates that refined qi must pass on its way to the brain. Clinically it is indicated for stiffness and pain of the head and neck and for eye disorders. The two senses are easily confused: one is an anatomical gate and channel point, the other a jade sleeping pillow used for cooling and calming.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
- Last Gate Check: Treat the occiput as the final bottleneck before qi reaches the brain. - Symptom Locator: Read headache and neck stiffness as signals that this gate is blocked. - Practice Selection: Choose between point treatment and cooling pillow according to the presenting pattern.
Anchor fast decisions
The occiput is the narrowest passage between the neck and the cranial cavity, where muscle tension and channel stagnation concentrate. Because the bladder channel runs through this region, blockage there produces headache, dizziness, and neck rigidity rather than local pain alone. Stimulating the point releases the channel and improves circulation to the head, while a jade pillow cools the surface and calms the spirit, so both approaches act on the same bottleneck from different directions.
