CORE DEFINITION

Proposed by Arthur Rock, it is the dark side of Moore's Law (cost reduction): the capital cost of a semiconductor chip fabrication plant (Fab) doubles every four years.

SCAFFOLDING EFFECT

psychology

Reduce cognitive load

Predicting capital barriers. Although technology products become cheaper, the entry barrier (capital expenditure) rises exponentially. This explains why high-tech industries often eventually move toward oligopoly, and it is used to analyze industry concentration trends.

anchor

Anchor fast decisions

Refers to the core conclusion of goal-setting theory: specific and challenging goals improve performance more than vague 'do your best' goals; goals work by directing attention, stimulating effort and persistence.
