CORE DEFINITION

Distinct from antagonism (which seeks to eliminate the enemy), agonism advocates for an adversary relationship. We acknowledge that disagreements cannot be eliminated, but we respect the adversary's right to exist, and we transform conflict through legitimate struggle rather than eliminating the other.
