Oedipus Complex
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
A child (3-6 years old) unconsciously has attachment to the opposite-sex parent and jealousy/hostility toward the same-sex parent (killing the father and marrying the mother). By resolving this conflict, the child identifies with the same-sex parent, thereby entering social norms (formation of the superego).
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
- Authority rebellion: Understand the complex emotions of subordinates towards leaders in the workplace—both dependence (seeking approval) and hostility (wanting to surpass/overthrow). This is often a projection of family power relations.
