Canonicalization

CORE DEFINITION

Canonicalization (also known as standardization in Singapore and Taiwan), also translated as normalization, unification, or institutionalization, refers to the process of first establishing a clear, simple, unambiguous rule, then compelling all products within the system to conform to this rule, which over time evolves into an absolute standard. Since the industrial era, all industries on Earth have undergone 'canonicalization'. This relatively complex concept has spread widely in the modern world, helping all humanity to have a common understanding of most global affairs. In a business environment, canonicalization involves seeking consensus among enterprises, users, interest groups, standards organizations, and governments to discuss industry standards. Good canonicalization must help improve compatibility, interoperability, repeatability, safety, or quality. From the 19th to the 20th century, canonicalization greatly advanced fields such as weights and measures, commerce, education, military science, and language learning, rapidly improving efficiency and enabling more complex tasks to be completed in less time. However, canonicalization is not without drawbacks; overly uniform rules can have serious negative effects in fields such as art, literature, philosophy, and political thought.
