Bode Plot
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
A Bode plot is a dual graph with frequency on the horizontal axis, plotting system gain (dB) and phase (degrees) respectively, used to analyze the frequency response characteristics of a system.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
A system health check table. At a glance, you can see at which frequencies the system amplifies, attenuates, or delays, and judge stability and performance.
Anchor fast decisions
Take the logarithm of the transfer function to obtain the gain (20log|G|, dB) and phase ∠G curves against frequency (logarithmic horizontal axis). The phase margin at the gain crossover (0 dB) and the gain margin at the phase crossover (-180°) are core indicators for judging closed-loop stability.
