PFI
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
P (Positive): positive feedback; F (Feedforward): forward-looking suggestions; I (Improvement): direction for improvement.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Future-oriented feedback. Shift the focus from "what was done wrong in the past" to "how to do better in the future," reducing defensiveness.
Anchor fast decisions
People instinctively defend against feedback about past mistakes, but are more open to suggestions for future improvement. PFI shifts the focus from blame to forward-looking guidance: first, give positive affirmation (P) to build a sense of safety, then use feedforward (F, specific forward-looking suggestions) and improvement direction (I) instead of "you were wrong," reducing resistance and enhancing actionability.
