CORE DEFINITION

A concept in TRIZ theory describing an idealized solution: Ideality formula: Ideality = Sum of useful functions / (Sum of harmful functions + Cost). Characteristics of IFR: - The system itself does not exist, but the function is achieved - No negative side effects - No increase in complexity or cost. Application method: 1. Describe the IFR: the system performs the function by itself. 2. Identify obstacles: what prevents the IFR from being realized? 3. Analyze resources: what resources are available in the system? 4. Resolve contradictions: find ways to overcome obstacles. Scaffolding role: Break away from the status quo and pursue perfection. IFR guides innovators to temporarily forget existing constraints, first imagine the ideal state, then think backwards about how to approach it.

Reduce cognitive load

Break away from the status quo and pursue perfection. IFR guides innovators to temporarily forget existing constraints, first imagine the ideal state, then think backwards about how to approach it.

Anchor fast decisions

A concept in TRIZ describing an idealized solution. Ideality = useful functions / (harmful functions + cost). The characteristic of IFR is that "the system itself does not exist, but the function is achieved, no negative effects, no increase in complexity". The mechanism is to break away from the status quo and pursue perfection—first imagine the ideal state, then think backwards about how to approach it, avoiding being anchored by current constraints.
