43 Folders
Updated 2026-08-10
INTRODUCTION
English translation pending.
CORE DEFINITION
The system uses forty-three physical or digital folders: twelve for the months and thirty-one for the days of the current month. Items are filed into the folder for the date on which they should surface, and each day the corresponding daily folder is opened and processed. At the end of the month the next month's contents are distributed into the daily folders. The purpose is to externalize time-triggered reminders so the mind does not have to hold them.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
- File by date: put each future item into the folder for the day it should resurface. - Empty the day: open today's folder and process everything inside it. - Refill monthly: distribute next month's items into the daily folders before the month turns.
Anchor fast decisions
Memory is unreliable for time-triggered intentions, so an item with no external cue either intrudes on current attention or gets forgotten. Anchoring each item to a specific date moves the reminder out of working memory and into the environment. Because the cue arrives exactly when it is needed, the anxiety of holding it disappears.
