The veil of ignorance, also known as the original position, is a concept in philosophy (especially political philosophy and ethics) used as a thought experiment to explore moral and justice issues in a cooperative society. The concept was proposed by economist John Harsanyi in 1955 and formally established by political philosopher John Rawls in his 1971 work 'A Theory of Justice'.
