CORE DEFINITION
Oppressed groups (such as Black people) possess 'two souls': one that sees oneself through one's own eyes, and another that sees oneself through the eyes of the oppressor (white people). They must constantly switch between two sets of standards and two identities. This internal split is both painful and a unique 'second sight'.
