CORE DEFINITION

Describes the flow of fluid through porous media (e.g., sand). Flow rate is proportional to permeability and pressure difference, and inversely proportional to viscosity.

SCAFFOLDING EFFECT

psychology

Reduce cognitive load

A physical model of permeability. To allow information or change to permeate an organization (porous medium), you can: 1. Increase pressure (top-down driving force); 2. Increase permeability (clear channels, build trust); 3. Reduce viscosity (simplify information, lower the barrier to understanding). Usually 'reducing viscosity' is the most overlooked but most effective.

anchor

Anchor fast decisions

Flow rate is proportional to permeability and pressure difference, and inversely proportional to viscosity; organizational permeability is similarly regulated by 'pressure, channels, and information viscosity'.
