War of Gods

INTRODUCTION
English translation pending.
CORE DEFINITION
Max Weber argued that after the disenchantment of the world, no unified and objective ultimate value remains. Different values, justice versus mercy or freedom versus security, stand opposed like the warring gods of antiquity, in eternal and irreconcilable conflict. Science can clarify which means serve a given value, but it cannot decide which value is right. The key condition is that this conflict is structural, not a failure of reasoning that more evidence could repair.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
- Conflict typing: classify the dispute as a clash of values rather than a disagreement about facts. - Name the gods: state which ultimate value each side is actually serving. - Standalone choice: decide by personal conscience, then own the consequences instead of hunting a scientific verdict.
Anchor fast decisions
Modernity disenchants the world, removing any shared objective standard for ultimate values. Without such a standard, values cannot be ranked or reconciled; they collide like gods, and science, which describes what is, cannot dictate what should be.
