CORE DEFINITION
The legitimacy of a ruler derives from "Heaven" (the natural order / the will of the people). If the ruler is without virtue (e.g., causing famines or making the people destitute), the Mandate of Heaven shifts (revolution is justified). This is a legitimacy theory with a feedback mechanism.
