Time Blocking
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Don't write a 'To-do List' (which is infinite), write a 'Calendar' (which is finite). Put each task into a specific time slot (Box), giving tasks physical boundaries.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
- Parkinson's Law killer: If you don't set an end time for a task, it will expand to fill your entire day. Time blocking forces you to face the reality that 'time is not enough' and make trade-offs.
Anchor fast decisions
Allocate a fixed duration (time box) to tasks, stopping or switching when time is up, to constrain scope, create urgency, and protect the overall schedule.
