CORE DEFINITION

Also known as "Don't Break the Chain". On a calendar, mark an X for each day you complete a task (e.g., writing jokes). The only goal is to not break the chain of X's.

SCAFFOLDING EFFECT

psychology

Reduce cognitive load

- Visual persistence: leverages loss aversion. When you see a chain of 30 X's, you'll force yourself to add another no matter how tired you are, because the psychological pain of breaking the chain is too great.

anchor

Anchor fast decisions

Same as the Seinfeld Strategy, i.e., "Don't Break the Chain": turning long-term persistence into a gamified commitment that cannot be interrupted through daily visible markers, using loss aversion to sustain action.
