- Self-nature: Question "who am I". If the self is only continuity of information, then "uploading consciousness" is immortality; if the self is continuity of the body, then teleportation is suicide. This determines our ethical stance towards digital life.
Anchor fast decisions
Parfit and others propose: if self = psychological/informational continuity, then teleportation replication is the continuation of "you" (immortality); if self = bodily continuity, then the original's decomposition is death, and the Martian is just a copy. The disagreement lies in what continuity "identity" is based on.
