NFT - Non-Fungible Token
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-28
CORE DEFINITION
A Non-Fungible Token (NFT) is a way to crowdfund and support project teams, and a unit of data on a blockchain (digital ledger). Each token can represent a unique digital asset, serving as an electronic certification or certificate of ownership for virtual goods. Due to their non-fungible nature, NFTs can represent digital assets such as paintings, artworks, sounds, videos, in-game items, or other forms of creative work. Although the works themselves can be infinitely reproduced, the tokens representing them can be fully tracked on their underlying blockchain, thus providing proof of ownership to buyers. Cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and Bitcoin have their own token standards to define the use of NFTs.
