Choice Architecture
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
The design of the environment influences the choices people make. By changing the way options are presented (such as default options, placement), it is possible to 'nudge' people towards specific choices without restricting freedom. Scaffolding role: invisible guidance. Don't rely on users' willpower. If you want employees to eat more vegetables, don't put up signs, but place vegetables in the most prominent place in the cafeteria and put fried chicken further away. You are the architect of the environment; you determine 80% of the decision path.
