CORE DEFINITION
When interpreting others' words and actions, not only assume they are rational (Principle of Charity), but also assume they hold roughly the same beliefs, desires, and worldview as we do, so as to establish a basis for communication. Scaffolding role: cornerstone of cross-cultural communication. Do not demonize dissenters as 'inhuman' or 'monsters'. Even in the most intense conflict, assume the other party is also fighting for survival, security, or dignity. This is a prerequisite for breaking the 'echo chamber'.
