Unity Principle
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
The seventh influence principle proposed by Cialdini. It is not just 'I like you' (liking), but 'even if you are wrong, I am on your side' (identity symbiosis). Based on deep identity recognition of race, place, family, or common enemy.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Ultimate persuasion. Do not just emphasize benefits (it is good for you), but emphasize identity (we are the same kind of people). Use the word 'we', emphasize common origin or enemy.
Anchor fast decisions
One of Cialdini's influence principles, built on deep identity recognition (blood, geography, common enemy), making people tend to side with 'their own' even when the other is wrong. It goes beyond liking, touching the 'us vs. them' boundary of belonging.
