Five Shu Points
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Below the elbow and knee joints, the flow of meridian qi is likened to water growing from small to large: Well (source), Spring (small stream), Stream (infusion), River (passage), Sea (merging into the ocean).
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Water conservancy valve. Do not needle points indiscriminately. For emergency use Well points (bloodletting), for fever use Spring points (clearing heat), for joint pain use Stream points (heavy body and painful joints), for cough and asthma use River points, for zang-fu disorders use Sea points.
Anchor fast decisions
Meridian qi flows from small to large at the extremities like water: Well (source), Spring (small stream), Stream (infusion), River (passage), Sea (entering the ocean). Different point categories have different indications (Well for emergencies, Spring for heat, Stream for heavy body and joint pain, River for cough and asthma, Sea for zang-fu disorders).
