CORE DEFINITION
Steelmanning constructs and evaluates the strongest reasonable version of another position, unlike attacking a weakened straw man. It may improve the original argument, but must distinguish what the person actually said from additions by the interpreter. The aim need not be refutation; it may lead to revising one’s own view.
