INTRODUCTION

English translation pending.

CORE DEFINITION

Ferdinand de Saussure separated language into two layers. Langue is the social, relatively stable system of grammar, vocabulary, and conventions that a community shares; parole is the concrete, individual utterance, variable and momentary. The distinction reframes how to study any phenomenon: a single event may be an instance of the system or a deviation from it, and the two require different interventions. Fixing one speaker's error treats parole, while changing the shared rules treats langue, and only the latter changes the conditions that produce every future utterance.

SCAFFOLDING EFFECT

psychology

Reduce cognitive load

- Sort the case: ask whether a behavior is one instance or a pattern before choosing where to intervene. - Treat symptoms at parole: correct the individual case when speed matters and the system is sound. - Cure the system layer: rewrite the rule, template, or incentive rather than patching cases forever.

anchor

Anchor fast decisions

Individual performance is generated by internalizing the shared system, so every parole event is a sample drawn from langue. Intervening on one event changes that event only, because the system that will generate tomorrow's events stays untouched; intervening on langue changes the generator itself. This is why recurring problems persist under case-level fixes, and why the highest-leverage intervention is almost always the least visible one, the rule that no one is currently arguing about.
