Platinum Rule
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Go beyond the Golden Rule (do not do unto others as you would not have them do unto you). The Platinum Rule is: "Treat others as they want to be treated."
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Empathy upgrade. You prefer directness (Golden Rule), but the other person prefers tact and subtlety. If you speak directly to them according to your preference, it is an offense. You must switch to their channel.
Anchor fast decisions
Treat others as they wish to be treated, not as you wish to be treated. Emphasize putting yourself in others' shoes to meet their needs.
