Permaculture
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Proposed by Bill Mollison. A design principle that simulates natural ecosystems, emphasizing mutual symbiosis, recycling, and self-sufficiency among elements, rather than industrial monoculture.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Niche construction. When planning a career or life, do not pursue a 'monoculture' (relying solely on a salary). Build an ecosystem (skills, interests, network) where elements nourish each other like a forest.
Anchor fast decisions
Imitate the hierarchy, closed loops, and mutualistic relationships of natural ecosystems to design human habitats: each element's output is another's input, with energy and matter cycling rather than being linearly consumed. Emphasize the 'edge effect' (the highest productivity at the intersection of different systems) and 'observer before intervener'.
