Meta-Analysis
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Systematically summarize the results of multiple independent studies and use statistical methods to integrate them into a more reliable overall conclusion.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Synthesis is superior to single studies. Individual studies may be biased; meta-analysis increases the credibility of conclusions by aggregating a large number of studies.
Anchor fast decisions
Use statistical methods to combine the results of multiple independent studies (on the same question), increasing sample size, improving statistical power, and quantifying heterogeneity among studies. It obtains a more robust effect estimate than any single study through weighted averaging (often weighted by sample size or variance), and can also test for publication bias.
