Changeover time is divided into 'internal activities' (must be done while the machine is stopped) and 'external activities' (can be done in advance outside the machine). By converting internal activities to external ones as much as possible and simplifying remaining internal steps, changeover is reduced to 'single-minute' (less than 10 minutes) level, thereby reducing batch sizes, increasing production flexibility, and lowering work-in-process inventory.
