REACH

INTRODUCTION
English translation pending.
CORE DEFINITION
REACH is a five-part checklist for judging whether a message or goal will actually work. Relevant means it matters to the specific audience; Engaging means it is compelling enough to move them; Actionable means they can act on it immediately; Clear means it carries no ambiguity; and Honest means it does not exaggerate or promise falsely. Where SMART focuses on goal structure, REACH adds attention and integrity, guarding against messages that are technically correct yet ignored, or persuasive yet misleading.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
- Use message audit: score a draft against all five REACH criteria before it is sent. - Use goal rewrite: convert vague aims into engaging, concrete, actionable wording. - Use honesty gate: check every claim against the evidence before publishing it externally.
Anchor fast decisions
Information must be both true and moving. REACH checks relevance to the audience, attractiveness, actionability, clarity, and honesty. By adding engagement and honesty to the usual clarity and action tests, it prevents goals or messages that are correct but produce no response, or persuasive but distorted.
