INTRODUCTION

CORE DEFINITION

In a magnetic mirror, most charged particles are reflected and confined by the field. Those whose velocity makes too small an angle with the field lines, pointing nearly straight at the exit, fall inside the loss cone and leak out of both ends. Generalized, it names a rule's directional loophole: every constraint system, whether law or management policy, has a cone of directions aimed at its gap, and actors pointed precisely there escape the constraint, so good design must shrink that cone angle.

SCAFFOLDING EFFECT

psychology

Reduce cognitive load

- Cone mapping: identify which directions sit inside the escape cone and which are reflected back. - Aim check: before committing effort, confirm your direction actually points at a real gap. - Design tightening: shrink the cone angle so fewer trajectories slip through the rule.

anchor

Anchor fast decisions

In a confined system, the field reflects most trajectories and only those within a specific range of directions pass through. Escape is therefore a function of direction rather than effort, and the geometry of the system decides who gets out.
