Osmotic Pressure
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
When a semipermeable membrane separates two solutions of different concentrations, the solvent (water) automatically flows from the side of lower concentration to the side of higher concentration, and the pressure generated is called osmotic pressure. That is, water flows toward the 'salty' side.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Concentration aggregation of resources. Talent, capital, and attention (water) naturally flow to places with high density and high concentration (salty), such as big cities and leading companies. If you want to attract resources, do not chase resources; instead, increase your own 'concentration' (core competitiveness), and resources will be automatically pumped in by osmotic pressure.
Anchor fast decisions
Due to the concentration difference of solutes across a semipermeable membrane, a pressure (osmotic pressure) is generated that drives the pure solvent to move toward the concentrated side; essentially, water is replenished from the side of high water potential to the side of low water potential, described by the van 't Hoff equation π = cRT.
