Roche Lobe
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
In a binary star system, each star has a gravitationally controlled region (lobe). If a star expands beyond its own Roche lobe, its material will flow toward the other star like quicksand.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
The critical point of resource overflow. When a company or individual expands beyond its management radius (Roche lobe), its resources, talent, and secrets will uncontrollably flow to competitors. Controlling scale within the gravitational range is key to preventing asset loss.
Anchor fast decisions
In close binary stars, the equipotential surface envelope of the gravitational dominance region of each star (the Roche lobe); when one star expands and crosses the inner Lagrangian point, material flows to the companion star, forming the basis for mass transfer and accretion in binaries.
