CORE DEFINITION
A conceptual tool constructed for the purpose of analyzing reality. It is not the "best" type, nor does it exist completely in reality, but rather a logically perfect model formed by exaggerating and purifying certain characteristics (such as "perfect competition market" or "bureaucracy"). Scaffolding role: A measuring stick for reality. Reality is always chaotic and cannot be analyzed directly. By constructing an "ideal type," we obtain a ruler to measure the deviation of reality from the ideal model (e.g., "to what extent does this organization conform to bureaucracy?"), thereby precisely locating problems.
