Fail-Fast
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Make the system stop and report errors immediately when a failure occurs, rather than trying to cover up errors and continue running. In entrepreneurship, it refers to releasing imperfect products as early as possible to validate failures at the lowest cost, thereby saving resources.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
A mechanism for stopping losses. Failure is not scary; what is scary is "slow failure" (discovering after three years that the direction was wrong). Design your life and work so that errors are exposed early (Fail Early, Fail Loud); this is the most efficient path to success.
Anchor fast decisions
Fail fast: Expose errors and invalid assumptions as early as possible, stop and pivot at minimal cost, and avoid heavy investment in the wrong direction. The mechanism is to use small-cost experiments to gain information and shorten the feedback loop.
