Tidal Force
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Due to the non-uniformity of the gravitational field (stronger gravity at the near end, weaker at the far end), an object in a gravitational field will be stretched. Near a black hole, this force is extremely strong and can pull an object into a noodle-like shape (spaghettification).
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
A metaphor for tearing caused by distance. In multinational corporations or long-distance relationships, because the environments (gravitational fields) at the two ends are different, individuals experience enormous 'psychological tidal forces' that pull them apart. If the core is not strong enough, this tearing sensation can lead to collapse.
Anchor fast decisions
The gravitational source exerts a stronger pull on the near side of an object than on the far side, creating a stretching differential, i.e., tidal force; it is the physical basis for tides, the Roche limit, and spacetime gravitational gradients (gravitational wave detection).
