CORE DEFINITION

A map designed by Buckminster Fuller that unfolds the Earth's surface onto an icosahedron. It is the only projection that shows all continents as a single 'one-island' without obvious distortion or tearing.

Reconstruct a holistic view. Unlike the fragmented perspective of the Mercator projection, the Dymaxion map forces us to see the continuity and connectivity of continents. When thinking about globalization or the community with a shared future for mankind, switching to a different projection tool can instantly break geopolitical stereotypes.

Fuller projects the Earth's sphere onto a regular icosahedron and then unfolds it. Since the faces of the icosahedron are nearly flat, the distortion of continental shapes and relative areas is minimal, and the continents remain continuous without tearing. It subverts the Mercator projection's 'Europe-centered, ocean-divided' perspective, presenting a 'continuous continental island surrounded by one ocean', changing people's perception of global connectivity.

Practice this model in one real situation:

When a global holistic view is needed, replace the Mercator projection with the Dymaxion (or similar continuous) projection. Use its continuity to prompt examination of transnational connectivity in supply chains, ecology, and pandemics. In teaching, use it to break the stereotypical map intuition of 'isolated countries'. Note that it is still a projection, not absolute truth.
