Robustness
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
The ability of a system to maintain its functions when subjected to disturbances, errors, or parameter variations. Unlike "antifragility" (which benefits from chaos), robustness is about being "tough".
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Fault-tolerant foundation. When designing, do not pursue extreme precision (that is fragile), but rather "good enough to run". Leave margin in the system so it can withstand stress.
Anchor fast decisions
Robustness (also translated as robustness) refers to the ability of a system, model, or control to maintain expected functions in the face of disturbances, abnormal inputs, or parameter fluctuations. It measures "toughness" rather than "optimal under ideal conditions".
