Rybczynski Theorem
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Analyzes the impact of changes in factor endowments on output. It states that, with constant commodity prices, an increase in the endowment of a factor will lead to an increase in the output of the good that intensively uses that factor, and a decrease in the output of the other good.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Predicting the impact of factor changes. It provides an analytical tool for understanding how changes in factor endowments affect the industrial structure. In analyses of demographic changes or capital accumulation, it helps predict which industries will expand and which will contract.
Anchor fast decisions
With relative commodity prices fixed, an increase in the supply of a factor leads to an increase in the output of the good that uses that factor intensively and a decrease in the output of the other good.
