Cooldown / CD
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
A mandatory recovery period after using a powerful skill. It prevents players from spamming ultimate abilities infinitely, which would cause system imbalance.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Forced cooldown. For high-intensity outputs (such as deep work, intense exercise, or anger), a hard cooldown must be set. Do not rely on willpower to recover; instead, like a game mechanic, once the skill is used, the icon turns gray (forced rest) until the cooldown finishes.
Anchor fast decisions
By enforcing a time interval, it limits the frequency of high-value actions, preventing the system (or person) from sustaining high-intensity output within a unit of time, thereby avoiding overload and maintaining long-term balance. The mechanism uses external rules to replace willpower for forced recovery—once the skill is used, it enters a 'gray icon' cooldown period.
