Hitbox
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
An invisible geometric box used in games for collision detection. The character's "visual model" and "hitbox" often do not completely overlap. You may think you hit (visually), but if you don't touch the hitbox, the attack is ineffective.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Find the effective contact surface. When trying to persuade or sell, don't be fooled by the other person's title or appearance (visual model). Find their true "hitbox" (core interest point). Many times you feel you "hit" the other person, but because you didn't hit the interest hitbox, they are unharmed.
Anchor fast decisions
In games, collision detection uses invisible geometric boxes (hitboxes) that may not coincide with the visible model. Visual "hits" may not land on the hitbox. The mechanism is "effective contact surface ≠ appearance" — in persuasion/sales, the other person's real interest point is the hitbox, while titles and appearance are the visual model.
