CORE DEFINITION
The heart (fire/above) must descend to warm kidney water, and the kidney (water/below) must ascend to nourish heart fire. This state of mutual intermingling is called "Jiji" (balance). If the heart and kidney fail to interact, there will be heat above (insomnia) and cold below (cold feet).
