Pre-suasion
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-30
CORE DEFINITION
Proposed by Robert Cialdini. Refers to the practice of changing the audience's focus of attention or psychological background before delivering the actual message, making them more receptive to the subsequent information. The key lies in 'timing' and 'preparation'.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Enhancing influence. It tells us that the battle of persuasion begins before the request is made. By creating an atmosphere, asking leading questions, or setting a specific environment, the success rate of subsequent requests can be greatly increased.
Anchor fast decisions
Attention has a channeling effect; directing the audience's attention to a certain concept/framework before key information biases their subsequent judgments toward that framework; 'what to focus on first' determines acceptance more than 'what to say'.
