Virtualization
Version 1.0.0 · Updated 2026-07-28
CORE DEFINITION
In computer technology, virtualization (technology) or virtual technology (English: Virtualization) is a resource management technique that abstracts, transforms, and presents the various physical resources of a computer (CPU, memory, disk space, network adapters, etc.) so that they can be partitioned and combined into one or more computer configuration environments. This breaks down the barriers that prevent the physical structures from being divided, allowing users to apply these computer hardware resources in a better way than the original configuration. The new virtual parts of these resources are not limited by the existing resource setup, geography, or physical configuration. Generally, virtualized resources include computing power and data storage.

Anchor fast decisions
Abstract physical/entity resources into a flexible logical layer (e.g., computing, storage, identity), decoupling the underlying and upper layers, improving utilization and elasticity.
