CORE DEFINITION
A concept proposed by Warren Buffett. Clearly know what you know (inside the circle) and what you don't know (outside the circle). The key to success lies in staying within the circle, not the size of the circle.
SCAFFOLDING EFFECT
Reduce cognitive load
Risk boundary. Inside the circle, you are an expert and can be aggressive; outside the circle, you are a gambler and must be conservative. The greatest danger is not ignorance, but mistakenly believing you are inside the circle.
Anchor fast decisions
Cognitive boundaries determine decision quality: within known boundaries, experience and information advantages lead to high win rates; outside boundaries, there is no information advantage, equivalent to randomness or even worse. The size of the circle is not important; knowing the boundary is what matters.
